Dora Lindgren, soprano
part of Sweden's musical heritage

DORA LINDGREN SOPRANO

made her debut at The Royal Opera House,Stockholm, as Michaela in "Carmen", which proved a foundation of her forthcoming career.

One Swedish reviewer expressed it this way, he had seen her as Rosina in the Barber of Seville when she was young:

"Rosina was sung by Lindgren, one of the most important sopranos in Sweden at that time. What I remember from the performance is how beautiful she was and how divinely she sang.

She took part in a nationwide tour with the Covent Garden Opera Company in England, and her success continued in other European countries.

Dora Lindgren was a versatile artist, she was equally successful in concert, oratorio and folk songs from various countries.

She made guest appearances at radio and television stations in London, Paris, Berlin, Hamburg, Brussels, Zurich, Copenhagen, Helsinki and other European cities.

Dora Lindgren

One of miss Lindgren's most enchanting programs was her interpretation of Jenny Lind.

Beautifully and authentically costumed, and with her simple, winsome charm sang the songs associated which Jenny Lind.

This program was particularly suceessful and appreciated during her concert tours throughout the Unitcd States.

While still active as a singer after arriving in America, she joined the voice faculty at Chicago's American Conservatory of Music where she was respected and admired by both students and colleagues.

When her younger colleague, Birgit Nilsson, performed in Chicago, Dora was appreciated as a friend and fellow Swedish artist.

Dora in retirement in Stockholm

Even in retirement Dora was in demand. At age 70 she sang a benefit concert in Bjursas church accompanied at the piano by her brother Harry Lindgren.

One reviewer had this to say: "For those of us who had not heard her in a concert setting in recent years, it was a re-acquaintance of considerable charm.

In her case we can talk of an exceptional and agile silvery soprano. The concert became a rare musical experience."

Flexible voice

When most opera singers retire around the age of 55, we find an exception to the rule when Dora Lindgren can continue singing 15 years later.

Not only continue, but impress with a flexibility of voice that few sopranos possess.

Her encore the "Norwegian Echo Song" resulted in the longest ovation within memory in the Bjursas church.
